Kent Velo Girls to support the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy

We are thrilled to announce that the Kent Velo Girls (KVG) have chosen the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy (PCIT) as their Charity of the Year – and they are already pedalling hard to help us reach a vital fundraising target.

Thanks to a conditional grant from Sport England, the University of Kent has been pledged £7,500 to help equip the Neurogym at PCIT – a specialist facility designed to support people with Parkinson’s through targeted physical therapy and exercise. There is, however, a catch: in order to unlock the funding, we need to raise a further £7,500 ourselves through donations.

That’s where the Kent Velo Girls come in.

Setting themselves a target of £3,000, the Club has launched into action with a series of fundraising events, blending their love of cycling with community spirit. Yesterday, members of the Club enjoyed one of their regular Wednesday rides with a twist – finishing at a member’s garden, where coffee, cake and a tour of the beautiful grounds helped raise funds for the cause.

And this is just the beginning.

On Friday 2nd August at 9am, KVG will host a club charity ride from Hilden Park Golf Club, with members and supporters coming together to ride for PCIT. Additional fundraising events are planned throughout the year as they continue their efforts to support people living with Parkinson’s.

Founded in 2008, Kent Velo Girls is now one of the UK’s largest women’s cycling clubs, with over 20 rides a week and a welcoming community that spans all ages and abilities. What started as a small group of women cycling together has grown into a vibrant club known for its camaraderie, inclusivity and passion for two wheels. The Club also includes a men’s section, the Kent Velo Boys, who ride at weekends.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of KVG. Their commitment to health, wellbeing and community reflects the very values we champion at the Parkinson’s Centre and their efforts are making a real difference in helping us build a Neurogym that will change lives.

Together, we can unlock this funding – and unlock more possibilities for people living with Parkinson’s.
