🌟 Meet Your Team at PCIT 🌟

Introducing Roxanna

🧠 What is your role at PCIT?

At the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapies, I serve as an Assistant Psychologist (AP). I conduct thorough assessments of individuals with Parkinson’s using tools like the UPDRS, PDQ-39, and MoCA. I also help design brief psychological interventions tailored not only for our members, but also for their carers and companions—supporting the wider community around those living with the condition.

💡 What inspired you to work with people affected by Parkinson’s or brain injuries?

My inspiration stems from a deep interest in the challenges posed by neurological conditions and chronic illnesses. Living with a long-term illness myself, and with a background working with people affected by brain injury and dementia, I’ve seen firsthand how much difference the right care can make. Studying clinical psychology has only deepened my commitment to helping others live well with these conditions.

💖 What’s the most rewarding part of your role?

Witnessing genuine improvements in our members’ quality of life. Seeing the positive impact our interventions have—not just for the individuals, but for their families too—is incredibly fulfilling. It’s what fuels my passion every single day.

📚 What’s one thing you wish more people knew about Parkinson’s or brain injury rehabilitation?

That it’s about so much more than physical recovery. Cognitive, emotional, and social rehabilitation are just as important. True recovery is holistic—and integrated therapies play a vital role in restoring confidence, independence, and hope.

🌱 How has working with this community changed your perspective?

This work has taught me the meaning of true resilience. Every small step matters. I’ve learned how compassion, patience, and specialist support can make a profound difference in someone’s healing journey.

🌈 What advice would you give someone starting their recovery journey?

Be patient with yourself and hold onto hope. Recovery isn’t always linear, but every small win is worth celebrating. Surround yourself with support, seek help when you need it, and know that you are not alone. PCIT is here for both you and your carer—offering care that treats the whole person.
